August engineering work to impact rail travel in Stockport

Rail passengers in Stockport and across Greater Manchester are being urged to plan journeys in advance ahead of engineering work taking place in August.

Important track renewal is taking place on rail routes through Stockport, Tameside and High Peak this August, with no trains operating as work is carried out. Engineering work will affect travel on services between Manchester Piccadilly and Rose Hill Marple, and Manchester Piccadilly and Hadfield on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August.

Between Manchester Piccadilly, Rose Hill Marple and Hadfield, engineers will replace old track with a new, modern equivalent, which will make journeys more reliable and provide a smoother ride on board.

Elsewhere in the city-region, there will be continued work on a new turnback between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale from Monday 10 to Friday 14 August.

On affected dates, no trains will run with replacement bus services in operation.

Amended Northern services will also run between Manchester Victoria and Chester, and between Leeds and Rochdale. Trains that normally run from Stalybridge to Wigan North Western or Southport will instead operate from Manchester Victoria, with alternative services operating between Stalybridge and Manchester Victoria. TransPennineExpress will also divert a number of its services to run from Manchester Piccadilly, instead of Victoria.
