Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery will host an exhibition of works of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts members, inspired by the many ways we remember, commemorate and reflect.
The Artful Remembrance exhibition will run from Saturday 12th September to Thursday 29th October, and features work that explores memory in its broadest sense. Through personal histories, shared experiences, places, objects and moments in time, the exhibition considers how art can preserve, question and reimagine what remains. Featuring painting, printmaking, and mixed media, it offers a rich and varied response to a theme that resonates across all our lives.
The theme of the exhibition connects with the unique origins of the Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery: it was built in 1925 to the designs of James Theodore Halliday as the town’s principal memorial to those who died in the First World War. It is the only purpose-built space combining remembrance with cultural engagement, and was designed to offer beauty and healing after the conflict.
The exhibition’s official opening will take place on Saturday 12 September from 1pm at the Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery in the town centre. Admission is free, with presentations commencing at 1.30pm.
Artful Remembrance continues until 29th October, with free admission throughout its run.
