Plans for 37 new homes off Demmings Road, Cheadle, have taken a step forward following approval by local councillors on Stockport Council’s Cheadle Area Committee.
After being given the green light by local representatives on 14th April, plans will now be considered for approval by the borough-wide Planning & Highways Committee later this year.
Developers, Southway Plus and Quinta Group, are proposing demolition of an existing industrial unit on the edge of Demmings Road Industrial Estate in Cheadle, and the construction of 28 new three-bedroom townhouses, and block of nine one- and two-bedroom apartments. The site is currently used by local coach operator, Bullocks.
None of the proposed homes will be made available as affordable housing; however, as Southway Plus acts as the commercial arm of Southway Housing Trust, it argues revenues will be be used to help subsidise other affordable housing schemes elsewhere in Greater Manchester.
An existing right-of-way through the site will also be re-routed as part of the scheme.
Plans for the scheme were originally submitted to Stockport Council in June 2025, before a revised proposal was resubmitted in February 2026.
View Associates are architects on the scheme, with the planning application prepared by Enabl on behalf of the developers.
