Stockport Council has secured £240,000 through the UK Government’s Pride in Place programme to upgrade play areas at three local parks in Reddish.
Houldsworth Park, South Reddish Park and Unity Park will receive £80,000 of investment each to upgrade and transform their play areas over the next two years. Funding will allow for the delivery of high quality, accessible and inclusive play spaces, offering a range of play opportunities for children of different ages and abilities.
There will be community engagement sessions running for each site so children and local stakeholders in Reddish will have the opportunity to help shape the selection, design and delivery of the improvements,
The proposals form part of wider work to improve parks and play facilities across Stockport, helping ensure more children have access to safe, welcoming and high-quality places to play close to home.
In the past 6 months, new play equipment has been installed in Woodbank Park, Alexandra Park in Edgeley and more improvements are planned for parks in the Heaton, including on Craig Road in Heaton Mersey and Manchester Road in Heaton Chapel.
Cllr Grace Baynham, Stockport Councik’s Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways and Transport Services, said:
“Every child should have access to a safe, welcoming and enjoyable place to play outdoors.
“These proposals would bring significant investment into Reddish and help us provide better play opportunities for children of different ages and abilities.
“Local children, families and community groups know these parks best, so their views are central to shaping the improvements at each site.
“We want to work with residents to create inclusive play areas that meet local needs and can be enjoyed for years to come.”
