Housebuilder, Miller Homes, is preparing plans for a development of approximately 125 new homes on a Greenbelt site in Woodford, between Moor Lane and the A555 Manchester Airport Link Road.
Pegasus Group has been instructed by the developer to request an EIA Screening Opinion from the council as an outline planning application for the scheme is put together.
Miller Homes is proposing construction of 125 homes on a roughly rectangular plot between Moor Lane, Jenny Lane and the recently built A555 dual carriageway, which it describes as “an obvious location” for development. Access to homes would be from Moor Lane, as well as for pedestrians from the existing public right of way, Fred Perry Way, that passes along the site’s Eastern edge.
The 8.3 ha Greenbelt site is currently used for grazing sheep, however, Stockport Council has faced pressure to sign off on Greenbelt development in recent years owing to a lack of Local Plan for the borough and after having a number of rejections overturned at appeal. Further progress towards a Local Plan has been most recently delayed by new annual housing targets for the borough, set at nearly double previous levels.
The scheme is the latest significant housing development proposed in Woodford in recent months, that, if all plans are greenlit by Stockport Council, could add nearly 1,500 new homes to the village. Other planned developments include the expansion of Woodford Garden Village, as well as Jones Homes’ 250-home development, also bounded by Moor Lane and the A555, and Russell LDP’s more than 500-home scheme, both of which are still in pre-application stages.
