Over 200 young people from Stockport will receive The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) at a presentation evening at Stockport Town Hall on Tuesday 19th March.
A total of 219 Awards – 30 Gold Awards, 36 Silver Awards and 153 Bronze Awards – will be presented at a celebration event presided over by The Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Wendy Meikle.
The Awards will be presented by Natalie Massey, member of the 2012 Paralympics GB Swimming Team and Jennifer Pinches, member of the 2012 Team GB Gymnastic Team.
To gain a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, young people need to reach the required standard in four sections: volunteering (any activity that helps others), skill (such as playing a musical instrument), physical recreation (such as Dance or football), a multi-day expedition, and at Gold level, a five day residential project.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Councillor for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said: “It is a fantastic achievement for so many of Stockport’s young people to gain The Duke of Edinburgh’s award. Each year we have huge success and I would encourage young people who are interested in participating to contact the Council to find out more about The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.”
Stockport Council’s Services for Young People manages the DofE which is open to all Stockport’s young people aged between 14 and 25 years old.
