Stockport Council’s planning committee will consider a revised Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) tomorrow following public consultation and feedback of 700 respondent’s comments received from residents and community groups during the consultation period..
The revised planning document regarding the proposed development of the former Woodford Aerodrome near Stockport has reduced the amount of housing and increased the scope for employment, including a health centre. Stockport Council has removed a proposed single masterplan for the 500 acre site and instead prepared three possible development opportunities which follows a public consultation into initial plans to build 950 homes on the former Woodford Aerodrome site. The number of homes to be developed has been revised down to 750-850.
JCB heir Joe Bamford bought the site last year from BAE Systems for £10m and has since agreed a joint venture with a subsidiary of housebuilder Redrow called Harrow Estates.
It has also addressed concerns over the lack of employment space in the plans. The new SPD now states: “Employment uses within Use Class B1 will be considered favourably so long as they are at a scale which is appropriate within a predominantly residential-led overall development.
“This may include small scale office and workspace units that are freestanding or as upper floors above other ancillary uses.”
The SPD approval process begins with a council planning committee on December 6 and concludes with an executive meeting of the council on January 7.
