The Life Leisure team and First House in Brinnington had an early visit from Santa, when he came and met them at one of their recent ‘I Wish I’d Tried’ roadshows.
Santa was keen to hear more about the exciting new community fitness programme ‘I Wish I’d Tried’, which has been set up for local Stockport adults aged 25 and over and aims to encourage people to participate in at least one, 30 minute sporting activity per week.

Life Leisure were out and about promoting the new activities to local people highlighting what sessions are currently available and asking local residents what other sports and activities they would like to try as well as what time of the day is best for them. The aim is to find out exactly what the local community is looking for and enable Life Leisure to continue to tailor the ‘I wish I’d Tried’ programme to what local people actually want.
Ross McGuigan, Adult Participation Officer at Life Leisure, can spill the beans on what Santa was interested in:
“Apart from sledging and sleigh riding, which he thought everyone should have a go at, he was interested in trying basketball and walking football and these were found to be popular with a lot of people. We will be looking to include them in the sports that we can offer as part of ‘I Wish I’d Tried’ in 2015.”
He continued,
“We will be collating all the responses from the local community who took part in the New Year and we would like to thank everyone including Santa for getting involved and taking the time to talk to us.”
This idea behind the scheme is to help people to have a go at something new, something they wish they had tried before or perhaps it’s been a few years since they last did a sport and would like to take it up again. There are lots of sports and sessions available from as little as a £1 a session, such as Tai Chi, Football, Zumba, swimming and much more.
