Vernon Building Society’s £10,000 Jubilee Fund is still open for applications! The local building society will be again awarding funding to 20 good causes in the Stockport area with readers of the Stockport Express voting on how the money is shared.
Since its launch in 2012 the fund has awarded over £30,000 to 53 local charity and community groups.
One of the causes who benefited from last year’s fund was Walthew House, an independent local charity supporting people in Stockport who are blind or visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing; or who have dual sensory loss. Walthew House runs a computer club for the visually impaired, of which the Jubilee Fund awarded £989.07 towards new equipment.
Furniture Station, a unique anti-poverty initiative in Stockport, also received an award from the Jubilee Fund in 2014. Furniture Station supply essential, reusable items of furniture & white goods to families & individuals in need within the borough of Stockport for just a nominal charge, helping them to establish a more stable & independent lifestyle.
The Jubilee Fund awarded the charity £764.81 towards the travel and vehicle costs associated with the delivery of essential furniture.
