The Vernon Building Society and Stockport County mascot, Vernon Bear, has been spotted taking his daily exercise around local neighbourhoods.
Vernon has been delighting the borough’s residents on his daily walks on the streets of Stockport. He’s so far done the rounds in Offerton and Hazel Grove, bringing a smile to the faces of local people staying at home in line with government guidance during the Coronavirus outbreak.
In the coming days and weeks, look out for Vernon Bear exercising in Brinnington and beyond. However, Vernon is very careful about social distancing, and only goes out for an hour a day to exercise, although he loves to wave on his way. He said:
It’s amazing to see all the kids and grown-ups smiling and waving at me from their homes and gardens. I’ve even had a few cheers.
“It makes me feel so much better to get some fresh air and exercise, although I am careful not to get close to anyone else or stay out too long.
“Give me a wave if you see me. I promise to wave back.”

You can follow the bear’s local walks and find out where he’ll be today on the Vernon Bear Facebook page, and post your photos if you spot him. Plus, follow Vernon on his Twitter account @vernonbear9.
To keep in the loop, Vernon Building Society will be regularly posting his whereabouts on Facebook too.
