Vehicles, which have exhaust emissions below 100g/km, are eligible for free parking in ‘on and off-street’ public parking places operated by Stockport Council throughout the borough.
Prior to October 2014 eligible vehicles were identified by the paper tax disc.
On Wednesday 1st October 2014, the paper tax disc was abolished and no longer needs to be displayed in a vehicle windscreen. So that owners of Band ‘A’ VED vehicles, can continue to show their eligibility for free parking Stockport Council are encouraging them to continue to display their tax disc.
The owners of new Vehicle Excise Duty Emissions Band A vehicles (or those that have discarded their tax disc) can apply for a permit (£10 administration fee) to confirm the vehicles eligibility.
Councillor Martin Candler, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Sustainability, said:
“It is important that residents, who do own a low emissions vehicle, help us to identify that they are still eligible and can continue to benefit from free parking at Council operated car parking places throughout the borough.”
