Stockport Council has confirmed that its usual Bank Holiday arrangements will be in place regarding its services on the date of the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Bank Holiday will allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and commemorate Her reign while marking the final day of the period of national mourning.
Stockport Council has confirmed the borough’s leisure centres, libraries and museums will close, although a full waste collection service is expected to go ahead. The town centre’s One Stockport Hub will also be closed, with Covid-19 vaccinations booked for the 19th September to be rescheduled for the following day.
Schools throughout the borough will also be closed, as per government guidance. A large number of national retailers have also shared their intention to close fully for the Bank Holiday, including supermarkets.
GP practices will also be closed in the borough for the Bank Holiday, however, those with urgent medical need can contact the NHS 111 service for free.
The council has also shared plans for commemorative events to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 year reign.
On Sunday (18th September) there will be a national moment of reflection at 8pm. Everyone is encouraged to mark this minute however feels right to them, for example by observing a silence, applauding or singing the national anthem.
There will also be a Civic Church Service in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday 18 September 2022 at 6.30pm at St Mary’s in the Marketplace, Stockport. All are welcome to attend.
At the end of the funeral service on Monday 19th September, there will be a two-minute silence at approximately 11:54am. This will be observed across the UK, and the council encourages residents to take a moment of reflection at this time.
