Latest UK job figures released today (19th February) by the Office National Statistics show that the number of adults aged 16 to 64 in employment in the final quarter of 2013 has increased by 193,000 compared with the preceding period, from July to September, equating to 72.1%.
During the same period, the unemployment rate fell 0.4% at the end of 2013: 7.2% of the economically active population. The total number of the registered unemployed was 2.34 million, down 125,000 from July to September 2013.
Over the 12 month period, between October to December 2012 and October 2013 to December 2013, total pay rose by 1.1% and regular pay by 1.0%.
The total number of women in employment and the number of self-employed also increased.
Comparing October to December 2013 with a year earlier:
• There were 396,000 more people in employment.
• There were 161,000 fewer unemployed people.
• There were 23,000 fewer economically inactive people aged from 16 to 64.
