Nico Spyrou’s experience in travel and marketing, previously holding roles in the B2B Marketing team at STA Travel UK, award-winning digital agency Capture Marketing and marketing consultancy JUXDIT, will see him strengthening ties with the trade as well as organising and delivering events throughout Manchester Airport’s catchment area, which extends west to his native Merseyside and East to Yorkshire; south to the Midlands and North to Central Scotland.
Nico is originally from Liverpool and has an MBA in Business Management from Liverpool Business School.
Patrick Alexander, Head of Marketing for Manchester Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nico to the team during this period of growth following the successful ‘Fly Manchester’ marketing campaign to win back passengers in our catchment who fly from other airports.
“Nico has a wealth of expertise in travel marketing and coming from Liverpool originally, we hope he will also help us tap into the Merseyside mind-set and encourage people from Liverpool and the surrounding areas to choose Manchester Airport ahead of London, when it comes to long haul flying.”
As Travel Trade Marketing Manager, he will be the key point of contact for all trade related activity at Manchester Airport.
Nico Spyrou, (Left) commented: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Manchester Airport at such an exciting time in its history, with record-breaking numbers of passengers using the airport, and the £1billion Terminal Transformation project ahead.
“Manchester and Liverpool are two fantastic ‘Northern Powerhouse Cities’, alongside the likes of Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Hull and beyond, so I am looking forward to working on behalf of the ‘Gateway Airport for the North of England’ to strengthen ties with the trade in these areas.”
Manchester Airport is the UK’s third largest airport and recent growth has seen passenger traffic increase to an all-time record breaking 23 million, reinforcing its credentials as the ‘UK’s Global Gateway from the North.’
The airport is the only UK airport outside of London with direct routes to a host of global destinations and in the past year has introduced new long haul routes to the likes of Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and Miami. With Beijing, Los Angeles and Boston starting in 2016.
With two runways, the airport has significant capacity for growth and already serves over 70 airlines and in excess of 210 short and long haul destinations.
