The team behind Stockport’s Business Improvement District, have created a new video showcasing the town centre as a vibrant and unique destination.
As town centres across the UK face challenging trading conditions, Stockport is experiencing a resurgence. New and quirky cafés, bars and restaurants such as Alfredo’s Social and Bohemian Arts Club are attracting a fresh wave of visitors, whilst experiential events such as the Totally Stockport Krazy Races Soap Box Derby and Art Battles are utilising the town’s geographical profile and brutalist architecture to their advantage to deliver memorable and crowd drawing occasions.
Totally Stockport have teamed up with Viaduct Videos to create a film that captures the vibrancy of the past 12-months and promotes the thriving town centre, independent businesses and alternative events. To make it a freely accessible resource, the film can be personalised with business logos so that organisations can use it to drive awareness of the town centre.
Shaun Freeman-Jones, BID manager at Totally Stockport explains the thinking behind the film:
“Stockport is transforming before our eyes, thanks to a £1billion plan of investment and a shared ambition amongst Stopfordians choosing to back their town. Our primary objective at Totally Stockport is to support our BID members and we’re doing that by challenging out-dated perceptions, showcasing the fantastic array of businesses that make Stockport so unique and ultimately attracting visitors to explore and have fun in our town.
“#ThisisStockport gives the audience a glimpse of what’s on offer on our doorstep and we hope it will provoke feelings of pride amongst local businesses and residents who will want to show their friends and family just how their local town centre is changing for the better.”
Mark Ross, CEO at Totally Stockport commented:
“In addition to its array of food, beverage and leisure options as proven in the film, Totally Stockport is also proud that the town has retained its Purple Flag status for another year. This award is testament to the work of our partners and as town centre living creates new communities, we can look forward to Stockport providing even greater choice, for everyone.”
The Purple Flag is awarded by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM) recognising the partnerships, innovation and the high level of planning required to deliver a quality evening and night-time economy (ENTE) within an area, specifically focusing on the wellbeing and freedom of movement of visitors after dark.
Shaun Freeman-Jones closes:
“This video is testament to the pride and love that our businesses have for their town, and we’re honoured to be able to provide businesses with a tool that they can use to promote the area. This won’t be the last film we produce, so I’d like to encourage people to get in touch once they’ve watched the film and let us know about other hidden gems in the town centre!”
The video is also available for local businesses to use as part of their own marketing collateral. If you’d like Totally Stockport to send you the video directly please email info@totallystockport.co.uk
