The outstanding achievements and successes of Stockport College’s students have been celebrated at a special online version of the FE Student Awards this year.
Students and their families waited in anticipation to log onto the virtual ceremony, which took place on Thursday 23rd July at 3pm, showing yet another way Stockport College is digitally forging ahead.
Assistant Principal Emma Goodlet and Director of Adult and Community Learning Joan Scott appeared on video to open the presentation of award-winners from each of the curriculum areas, some of whom have bravely battled against adversity to achieve success.
Two students in particular were celebrating after being selected from over 10,000 students across Stockport College and individually honoured with Outstanding Achievement Awards.
Steven Smith and Nathaniel Yates scooped the coveted awards for their dedication and commitment to their studies at Stockport College.
Assistant NHS Practitioner of 20 years Steven received recognition for his determination to achieve in Science, travelling the distance after work to study twice a week. Despite the challenges Steven has faced, his resilience and focus have enabled him to pursue his dream to successfully apply for an access to medicine university course.
Nathaniel, who has Cerebral Palsy, overcame barriers to his reading to progress in Health and Social Care. This award recognises not just his educational achievements, but his contribution to the wider community, as member of College campaign body, the Equalities Council, and disability groups in the locality, recently lobbying MPs for better disabled access in the area.
