Four teams of colleagues from Cheadle-based lender, Together, have secured over £30,000 for charity by completing a Race Around the World challenge and travelling from London to Albania.
Four teams of two made it to the start line as part of Together’s inaugural Race Around the World in aid of local good causes, setting off from Big Ben on 17th August.
Each team member was given £500 each and, although they were allowed to keep their phones with them, hitchhiking and air travel was banned on their seven-day epic trip inspired by the BBC’s popular TV show ‘Race Across The World’.
The winning challengers were Claudia Calladine and Sue Nicholson (pictured) who crossed the finish line at 8am on Thursday 24th August, four hours ahead of schedule. Victory saw the duo win £15,000 for their chosen charities, Manchester Youth Zone and HideOut Youth Zone.
In second place, Mollie Hursthouse and Herbie Hursthouse have scooped the £10,000 prize for the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity.
After an extremely close race for third and fourth place, the £5,000 prize was Alex Donohue and Jack Hodgkinson for Forever Manchester. In fourth place, Sajeel Qureshi and Mike Slattery won £3,000 for Together’s Colleague Charity of the Year, Seashell Trust.
Mike Slattery, said:
“It’s been the experience of a lifetime. We’ve had some crazy adventures and I think we all underestimated how much of a challenge it would be. But it’s been amazing to raise a fantastic amount for Seashell and to top up our fundraising total too has been a bonus. Thanks to Together for giving us this opportunity!”
