Mr Peter B Robinson LLB, Joint Life President & Retired Chairman, Frederic Robinson Limited
22nd October 1931 – 8th May 2021
Mr Peter Robinson’s death was announced to the licensees and employees of Robinsons Brewery by his brother Dennis this week in a touching letter.
“It is with the deepest sadness that I announce that on Saturday 8th May 2021, Peter passed away peacefully with his family at his side. A beloved brother to David and I, father to Juliet and Rachel, father in law to Matt and grandfather to his five wonderful grandchildren. He leaves a large void in all our lives, but many memories which will live on.
“Peter joined the family business on 21st January 1957 as Company Secretary, taking over from our father. He was appointed a Director in 1962, a position which he held for over 50 years, and Chairman from 1978 to 2020, just over 42 years”, wrote Dennis Robinson, Joint Life President of Frederic Robinson Limited.
Mr Peter, as he was known to licensees and employers, was active within the brewing and pub industry as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Brewers and a long-standing Council member of the British Beer and Pub Association, as a Chairman of the North West Beer and Pub Association, and as a President of the Shire Horse Society. Outside the brewing industry, he had been a long-standing trustee of the Sir Ralph Pendlebury’s Charity for Orphans in Stockport and Chairman of the Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Horticultural and Rose Society. Outside work he was a lifelong Manchester City supporter and enjoyed time in his garden where he indulged in his passion for growing and showing Sweet Peas.
Alongside his two brothers, he had been active in growing and developing Robinson’s retail estate, including their expansion into the Lake District in the 1980’s. Through their tenure they improved the quality of their pub estate, increasing the number of food-led businesses and pubs with letting bedrooms.
The Chairman and the Board recorded their thanks to Peter for all he did to enhance the business throughout his working career and condolences to the family at this difficult time.
Dennis Robinson singed off in his letter with a lovely comment: “He leaves the family with many treasured memories” – Words which resonate with the employees and licensees of Robinson’s Brewery.
