The Greater Manchester Commitment offer incentives to employers to take on a young person through Apprenticeship; already over 400 young people have been supported through this initiative and a mentoring programme is also being piloted.
A campaign encouraging businesses to pledge support for young people was launched at the Summit and a total of 128 GM Commitment pledges were made on the day. This included 36 employers pledging to create apprenticeships, 34 employers pledging to link with a local school, 26 offering work experience and 33 employers pledging to mentor a young person. Notable commitments included The University of Manchester pledging to create 50 new apprenticeships and 100 new work experience places for young unemployed people in 2013 and Warburtons pledging to double their number of apprenticeships in 2013.
Immediate impact of the event was also felt when three young people that presented as part of the Rathbone agenda item were offered jobs by employers in the room.
