With work underway to reopen Romiley’s Forum Theatre in June, the theatre has shared the upcoming line-up of shows planned to welcome back audiences.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – Thurs 20th – Sat 22nd June
Jamie New is sixteen and lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in. Jamie is terrified about the future, Jamie is going to be a sensation! Supported by his Mum and friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight. A fantastically fun musical suitable for the whole family. Presented by the NK Theatre Arts youth theatre, performances at 7.30pm.
50 Years of the Dark Side – Friday 28th June
Pink Floydian are an 8-piece tribute to the greatest prog rock band of all time. They have been building up a reputation as one of the finest and most authentic Pink Floyd tributes in the UK. They have received praise for their incredibly accurate renditions and authentic stage show. The two and a half hour show sees them performing classic moments from Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Obscured By Clouds, A Saucerful of Secrets, More, Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, The Final Cut, Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell. The show also features the all important Floyd-esque lasers! Doors 7.30pm
Best of the West End – Friday 4th July
Join us for a fantastic evening of a cabaret style musical revue. Featuring a wide variety of singers in a concert setting, journey down the West End for some of the greatest Musical Theatre songs ever written. Table seating of ten with bar open throughout the night. Doors 7pm performance starts at 7.30pm
Sleeping Beauty – Thurs 1st – Sun 4th August
Get ready for all your dreams to come true this Summer as Pantomime returns to The Forum Theatre. Once upon a time in a land far away, Princess Aurora is given a twenty-first birthday present by her evil Aunt Carabosse. By pricking her finger on an enchanted spinning wheel, she will be placed under a cruel curse and forced to sleep for 100 years. Can true love survive and the spell be broken by Prince Phillip? With the help of Nanny Betty, Chester the Jester and not forgetting our magical fairy, all will be revealed in this spectacular panto packed with magic, music, comedy and special effects. Various performance times matinee and evening, suitable for the whole family.
Guide Bridge Theatre, Audenshaw – Sat 3rd August
An afternoon of music celebrating the course of the last 60 years of musical theatre; from shows as diverse as ‘Oliver’ and ‘Camelot’ to ‘Hamilton’ and ‘Six’ – there will be something for everyone. Featuring a cast of musical theatre performers, refreshments and a licenced bar. All proceeds raised are to support The Forum Theatre. Performance time 2pm
Queen Rocks – Guide Bridge Theatre, Sat 3rd August
Celebrating the works of one of the most famous British Rock groups to have existed and featuring songs from right across their catalogue including hits such as “Another One Bites The Dust”, “We Will Rock You” and “I Want To Break Free” alongside lesser known tunes such as “Melancholy Blues” and “Who Wants To Live Forever”. “Queen Rocks” features a live, 6 piece band and experienced, award winning singers from across the Greater Manchester area who have all come together to raise funds to support the work of NK Theatre Arts. Refreshments and a licenced bar will be available. Performance time 7.30pm
Shaun Ryder – Wednesday 18th September
He’s the wild man of rock who became a national treasure. Happy Mondays and Black Grape frontman Shaun Ryder is hitting the road for a new, spoken word tour. The star of more-TV shows-than-anyone-has-a-right-to-feature-on – including Celebrity Gogglebox, and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, among many others – redefined the sex’n’drugs’n’rock’n’roll lifestyle during the halcyon age of Madchester. He’s touring in support of his new book: ‘Happy Mondays – and Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays’. Fans can look forward to a carnival of excess, wild tales, and improbable truths, as they enjoy the talents of a unique rock n roll star dubbed Britpop’s answer to WB Yeats. Bad Girls – Weds 25th – Sat 29th September
Bad Girls introduces us to an anarchic bunch of women on the edge and up against the odds – prostitutes, addicts, shop-lifters, murderers – each with a story to tell of lives left behind and dreams of a better future ahead, and an entrenched old guard of prison officers out to dash their every hope. With all the well know names from the hit TV programme, from Governor Helen Stewart, the ruthless Jim Fenner and those infamous inmates, Bad Girls is an exhilarating mix of gritty reality, rebellious spirit, emotional honesty and irreverent humour, that touches hearts and kicks up a riot. Full of big songs and characters, presented by NK Theatre Arts, This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International. Please note this performance contains strong language and adult themes and is not suitable for young children. Performance time 7.30pm, early bird ticket offers now available.
Kerry Ellis – Thursday 3rd October
Kerry Ellis is the Queen of the West End. From My Fair Lady to We Will Rock You, from Les Miserables to Wicked, in both the West End and on Broadway, she has starred in musical theatre’s biggest roles, making shows her own and earning her numerous awards. Her list of credits is remarkable and also include Oliver!, Cats, Miss Saigon, Chess, The War Of The Worlds, and Anything Goes, among many others. She has recorded 4 studio albums, and toured the world both as a solo artist and with her good friend Sir Brian May. And now the star who grew up admiring musical theatre icons Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand is looking back on her illustrious career. Singing songs from the biggest musicals and telling stories about how she came to play roles, this is a unique opportunity to see and hear the West End’s biggest hits in a very intimate setting on a tour of the UK. Cats in Space, Thursday 10th October
Cats In Space celebrate the release of their 5th album, Kickstart The Sun with a full UK tour, complete with new production. Having toured previously with Thunder, Deep Purple, Europe, Status Quo across arenas, the band are now poised to bring their biggest and best show yet to theatres all over the UK Doors 7pm.
Aled Jones – Friday 8th November
Prepare to hear Aled Jones as you’ve never heard him before. He was the boy treble who captivated the world with his angelic voice. Selling over seven million albums, Aled was the original, classical crossover star. His recording of Walking in the Air, from the animated film The Snowman, firmly established him as a household name and he has become an integral part of the nation’s festivities. Equally at home on the classical stage,or starring in musical theatre productions in London West End he is an award-winning television broadcaster and radio presenter who’s interviewed hundreds of A-List stars over the years. He heads up BBC’s Songs of Praise and his own Saturday and Sunday morning shows on Classic FM. Now, after 40 years in the business, he’s looking back on a remarkable career with a one-man show, that will feature never-before-heard music, tales from the decades and for the first time, his story told in his own words.
