The BIG Stockport 10k and Family Fun Run is back in Stockport town centre on Sunday 16th September – are you joining in?
Entries are filling up fast so it’s time to get those running shoes on and set yourself a challenge for the autumn.
The race will start (10am) and finish in St. Petersgate.
The first BIG Stockport Run was established in 2012 as a legacy to the London Olympics. The hugely popular event continues to go from strength to strength and organisers Life Leisure saw a record turnout in 2017, with over 950 entries from all over the UK. It seems that judging by all the interest shown, 2018 will be even bigger.
Last year saw Alex Hinchcliffe (from Sheffield) finishing in first place overall in the 10k race with a time of 34.30mins. He was among 182 vegan runners taking part last year. First open female was Ali Guihen from Brighton and the ‘Jackfruit 5’ team, at 40:17mins.
The Big Stockport 10km run is aimed at runners of all abilities aged 16+.
Also back for this year is the popular 1KM family fun run, entries are now open on the Life Leisure website.
Entrants can run, walk or complete the course as a group with previous runs seeing competitors in fancy dress as part of their personal drives to raise money for their chosen charities. For the 10k chip timing technology will be used, so everyone can get accurate results of their run. There will be prizes for Men’s, Women’s and Team categories and a goodie bag containing a t-shirt and medal will be provided for participants.
But it isn’t just about the runners; there will also be a fabulous family festival village where there will be exhibitors, food and children’s entertainment which promises to provide plenty of fun for all the family.
Sam Barton, Community Sports Officer at Life Leisure, the BIG Run organisers said,
“This is an event for everyone, whether you are a serious runner or just coming along to have some fun. It also helps local people raise a lot of money for their own favourite charities as well as being a key date in the diary for elite runners.”
The entry cost is just £17 (UKA Affiliated Athletes: £15); £20 (on the day entry); Team Entry (5 people) £60; Please note the 10km event is only open to people aged 15 years+. Family Fun Run entry cost is £5 (Children aged 5 years old and under can take part free of charge, when accompanied by a paying adult).
