
Transport for Greater Manchester – TfGM – are launching a Learn to Ride scheme in Stockport to help anyone is is keen to get peddling across the borough.
The Learn to Ride friendly cycling training sessions are open to anyone over 12 years old who would like to learn to ride a bike, to get out on the road and to find out how to ride safely around town.
The scheme will also cover tips on maintaining and repairing your bike.

From complete beginners, to experienced cyclists, there’s something here for everyone – even professional drivers who need to get more cycle-aware.

If it’s been a while since you’ve ridden a bike, or maybe you’ve never had the chance to try, Learn to Ride is the course for you. Learn to Ride courses are led by qualified instructors who look to teach the very basics of cycling, offering support and guidance at your pace.
The course takes place in a safe, off-road environment and lasts around two hours, giving you plenty of time to hone your skills… if not, you can always come back as many times as it takes!
Over two hours you’ll learn:
- Things you should check before each ride
- Getting on your bike, balancing and getting off again
- Starting and stopping
- Steering your bike and stopping quickly if you need to
Bikes and helmets will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
