Greater Manchester residents are the face of TfGM’s It’s Your Move active travel campaign, showcasing how people have started walking, wheeling or cycling this summer.
The campaign shares real life stories about how residents across GM have started to travel more actively. Stories are being shared to help encourage uptake of gateways to active travel, such as, bike hire schemes, cycle training offers, Bike Libraries, and community active travel groups. It’s Your Move also hopes to educate audiences of the benefits of active travel, encompassing improved health, fitness, wellbeing and the cost benefits.
The campaign also features TfGM’s first ever video to be recorded in British Sign Language (BSL). This has been made possible through working collaboratively with Bolton’s Deaf Asian Women’s Group, and seeks to help raise awareness of active travel opportunities in the city-region that are inclusive, universally accessible, and built to consistent standards that meet and exceed local and national standards.
As part of the 2040 Transport Strategy, TfGM has the objective that by 2040, 50% of all journeys in
Greater Manchester are made by public transport or active travel, supporting a reduction in car use
to no more than 50% of daily trips. Additionally, 25% of trips under 1km in GM are currently made by
car whereby short journeys like these could be travelled in 15 minutes by foot, or just four minutes
by cycling.
