Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has launched a new online vehicle checker tool to help businesses find out how they will be affected and any financial support they may be eligible for when a Clean Air Zone is introduced on Greater Manchester’s roads next year.
The vehicle checker tool will help businesses understand if their vehicles would be subject to a daily charge to drive in the Clean Air Zone, find out what exemptions, discounts and financial support to upgrade to cleaner vehicles they may be eligible for, and to sign up for future updates.
The tool will help businesses prepare ahead of the launch of financial support programmes for upgrading and retrofit HGVs; applications open from 30th November. Other impacted vehicle types, such as taxis, vans and minibuses, will be able to apply for funding from January 2022.
Greater Manchester has received £120 million from government to help businesses retrofit existing vehicles or purchase new vehicles to comply with the rules.
The Clean Air Zone aims to reduce harmful NO2 pollution on Greater Manchester’s road network by levying a daily charge on the most polluting commercial vehicles; unlike a congestion charge, privately-owned vehicles will not be affected. The zone comes into effect from 30th May 2022.
The vehicle checker tool is available from the Clean Air GM website.
