Stockport charity Supportability are looking for volunteers to work on their ‘Celebrating Supportability at 70’ project, made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Supportability has been supporting people with a range of disabilities since 1953, but the organisations’ story has never been fully documented or researched before.
There are many ways people can get involved, including archiving 70 years’ worth of historical documentation and photographs, organising heritage inspired events for the people they support, conducting oral history interviews and planning a historical exhibition.
Volunteers can gain some work experience, give something back to the community, meet new people and learn new skills.
They are looking for people who can dedicate 8 – 12 hours a month (hours and days are flexible), have excellent organisational skills, good written and verbal skills and have an interest in an organisation that supports individuals with learning disabilities.
Additionally, they are looking to speak with people who have a connection to the charity. For more details, please contact the charity’s Project Manger, Elli Tozer, who said of the project:
“Celebrating Supportability at 70 is meaningful to the people we support and informative for our community. The project is an exciting opportunity to understand our history so that we may celebrate it and then preserve it. We’d love to hear from anyone with a Supportability story – no amount of detail is too small.”
