Video production agency, Studio 91 Media, has produced an eight-episode science show for 7 to 11 year-olds that has now gone live on the BBC Teach website.
Show Me The Science aims to offer a useful resource for primary school teachers to use to engage children with 35-40 minutes of video content on the topics of forces and electricity. Following discussion between BBC Teach and Studio 91, Blue Peter’s Mwaksy Mudenda and science presenter Greg Foot were chosen to front the show.
Studio 91’s pitch for the project also included hand-drawn animations helping to explain the various scientific principles. These animations either appear full-frame, or superimposed onto a whiteboard behind our presenters. The visual interest and humour in these moments is what will help the lesson stay with the students.
Science communications consultants Phil Bell-Young, Sarah Cosgriff and Hannah-Rose Ford were also enlisted by the agency to devise episodes and scripts and review early edits, with additional fine tuning from co-presenter, Greg. Videos were filmed across three days at The Fuse in Partington, Greater Manchester.
Studio 91 video producer and managing director, Ben Horrigan commented:
“We worked really hard on this project so I’m beyond proud to see it out in the world! It’s big news for Studio 91 as a small video production company, but most importantly it’s going to be a really useful resource for primary school teachers.
“Far from the stuffy educational programming we’re used to from when we were kids, this is a chance for 7- to 11-year-olds to see real science through vivid animation and mind-blowing experiments, and to have a good laugh while they’re at it.”
All eight episodes of Show Me the Science are available to watch now on the BBC Teach website, along with helpful teaching notes to make the content go even further.
