Students from across the borough took part in Stockport’s ‘Young Apprentice’ event, held at Edgeley Park giving pupils the chance to show their entrepreneurial, team working and enterprise skills.
Following full and enterprising sessions, the winning Schools team was from Priestnall School and the winning College and 6th Form team were Aquinas College. Their task was to design, cost and make an educational board game to promote either recycling or healthy living, from the items available on the day. Teams had to create a business plan and present their board game to the judging panel to persuade them to place orders for their particular game.
Thirteen teams were submitted by the following schools for the morning session:
- Reddish Vale Technology College
- Marple Hall School
- Priestnall School
- Hazel Grove High School Sixth Form
- Stockport College
Thirteen teams were submitted by the following colleges and school sixth forms for the afternoon session:

- Stockport College
All participants were awarded medals for taking part in the day and the feedback from the event was very positive. Students comments included ‘I think everything worked well because they kept us on a very tight time schedule, so it felt like the real deal we got the full on experience, and I really enjoyed it’ and ‘I think the resources that we were given were good, also we liked how we had to stick to a budget, which made us feel like we were on the apprentice programme.’
