The corporate team at Stockport law firm SAS Daniels LLP, based on Greek Street, has advised the largest privately-owned enforcement company in England and Wales on the acquisition of a local rival.
High Court Enforcement Group (HCE), which has offices in Cardiff, Colwyn Bay, London, Liverpool and Swansea, acquired CN Gaunt & Son, a Bradford-based debt collection and court enforcement business for an undisclosed sum. All 13 of CN Gaunt & Son’s employees will join HCE which currently employs more than 200 people, including more than 20 authorised High Court enforcement officers.
Jeremy Orrell, (pictured left) Head of Corporate at SAS Daniels LLP,
advised HCE Group on the purchase:
“The current business climate means that enforcement companies are
extremely busy, and having local offices and experience is critical in
maintaining a high standard of service.
“This deal gives HCE Group a foothold in an important market where it
has been under represented until now.”
CN Gaunt & Son has been owned by partners Gary Bovan, an ex-Sheriff of Bradford, and James Metcalfe since 2008. Both will be staying with the business, the former as director of new business and client care, and the latter as enforcement director for the North of England.
HCE group director Gordon Dean said “This deal is a strategic coup for the group, as it cements our status as an industry leader with strong local links. It also means that with Gary and James staying as directors, we have gained two well-respected and well-connected High Court enforcement officers with an intimate knowledge of the local market.”
Bovan added “This sale will strengthen our position in the marketplace and enable us to operate as part of the HCE group for the benefit of our clients.”
