Stockport’s heritage local Radio station, Imagine, has been absorbed into Bauer’s portfolio to expand the reach of Manchester’s Greatest Hits Radio into areas across Cheshire, the High Peak and parts of Derbyshire.
From next month, Imagine FM, who for over 30 years broadcast music, interviews and local news across Stockport on the 104.9 wavelength, will lose its local identity and become part of Manchester’s Greatest Hits radio. Bauer, owners of Manchester’s Greatest Hits Radio, has been on the local acquisition trail for some time recently taking over Tower Radio in Bolton and Revolution Radio in Oldham, in a bid to control local radio footprints.
Unlike many areas, Stockport will still lay claim to its own local radio station offering a local service. Strawberry Radio was set up 18 Months ago by Former Imagine FM team Paul Taylor and Chellce AJ who after hearing the announcement said:
“We are really sad to see Imagine disappear, we had some amazing years there and it’s such a strong brand with so much heritage. So many local radio stations are being scooped up into the regional framework. That’s one of the main reasons we launched Strawberry.
“As an independent station, we can assure residents and businesses that we will deliver their local news, information, interviews and events like our Strawberry Festival and carry live commentary for Stockport County home games. We will continue to give Stockport the local radio station it deserves.”
In February 2019 Imagine FM Ltd was bought by Gloucester based Helius Media owners of Like Radio broadcasting from Cheltenham.
