Hillgate in Stockport will be closed with immediate effect until Monday 23rd December to allow a dangerous building to be made safe.
Following an examination of the building by both Stockport Council and the building owners’ structural engineer it was agreed that immediate measures were needed to make the building safe.
Hillgate has been closed from 8.00am this morning to allow the work to be carried out safely.
Access to Hillgate will be reviewed daily to decide when it’s safe to allow pedestrians back into the area, although this is unlikely to be before Sunday 22nd December.
Businesses have been informed about the road closure.
