Stockport based insurance software house, CDL, has come to the aid of local charity, Independent Options, after the group’s popular allotment facility, in Hazel Grove, was destroyed in a suspected arson attack.
CDL has donated £1,000 to the organisation for adults and children with learning difficulties, to help repair the outbuilding, as well as replace the gardening equipment, work clothes and plants that it contained.
Lucy Sawdon, Independent Options fundraising manager, commented:
“We were heartbroken to discover what had happened. The plot is maintained by a group of adults with learning disabilities as part of a much-loved project that helps teach team-building skills, and provides participants with the satisfaction of growing their own vegetables.
“As a registered charity we rely heavily on donations. The money from CDL will go a long way in helping us return the allotment to its former glory – as well as to ensure the future longevity of the project.”
The donation comes from the CDL Fund – a reserve of money that is managed through the company’s partnership with local community foundation, Forever Manchester, as part of CDL’s active corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. Through this fund, CDL aims to make a long lasting difference to surrounding Stockport-area at a grass-roots level.
Melissa Johnson, CDL Group Director, commented:
“Independent Options is a fantastic local organisation, and the allotment gives purpose to many people’s lives. We were all deeply shocked by the news, and felt eager to help in whatever way we could. I just hope the allotment will be back up and running as soon as possible.”
