Stockport Council has praised the ‘incredible response’ of voluntary sector organisations in the borough to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Through the Stockport Local Fund: Community Support grants, in three weeks, Stockport Council has been able to award £30,000 to 35 different community-led voluntary projects working to tackle the negative effects of the crisis. Funded projects include setting up schemes for the homeless, providing care packages for older people, delivering food parcels and providing digital activities for children.
Voluntary sector organisations to receive funding from Stockport Council include established charities, as well as new organisations helping their communities during the pandemic.
Councillor Amanda Peers, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Neighbourhoods said:
Stockport Council recognises the tremendous effort being made by communities across Stockport and the crucial work of the voluntary sector. Facing up to this crisis required a Stockport wide response and I am delighted we have been able to help with funding for so many different projects across Stockport who are providing this vital support.
“These are uncertain times for the voluntary sector yet these groups are still helping our most vulnerable to deal with the crisis. This is why we have also set up a funding alliance, working with Sector 3 and Stockport Homes, to help organisations find and apply for funding for community projects.
“Thank you to everyone working and volunteering in our communities. The outpouring of support to help people in Stockport during these most difficult of times has been magnificent!”
Stockport Local Fund: Community Support grants of up to £1000 are still available, with further information on a dedicated Council website.
