Residents and businesses in Stockport are being urged to go green and to celebrate and participate in Climate Week, from 3rdto the 9th March 2014.
Climate Week is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign, inspiring a new wave of action to create a sustainable future. Culminating in a week of activities on 3-9 March 2014, it showcases practical solutions from every sector of society that help people live and work more sustainably.
Commenting, local MP Andrew Stunell said:
“If you want to cut your bills, keep cosy and save the planet, this is the week to start. There are loads of simple ideas that anyone can use, and the Climate Week website is full of them. It’s never been easier to get started and to play your part in going green.”
Stockport already does its bit for the environment including Stockport Hydro (pictured left) that generates power for the local community in Marple from twin turbines in the River Goyt; the Eco House in Marple, run by MESS – an energy saving community group, generates its own energy; Hazel Grove’s buses have gone green and many Stockport households have installed solar panels to generate their own renewable energy or loft insulation to help bring down their energy bills.
Lisa Smart, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hazel Grove, said:
“Stockport really is leading the way, but we can always do more, and in Climate Week it’s even easier than usual. I really would encourage all Stockport residents to take a quick look at the Climate Week website which has lots of easy suggestions that we can do in our own home to do our bit.”
