The new Travis Brow Link Road picked up the ‘Project of the Year – over £5million’ award at the CECA (Civil Engineering Contractors’ Association) North West awards ceremony.
CECA North West represents more than 70 civil engineering companies of all sizes, with a combined turnover in excess of £2 billion, and employing more than 20,000 people. Stockport Council’s partners on the project – GRAHAM and George Cox & Sons – were on hand to pick up the award.
The road – that links the M60 Motorway at Junction 1 with the A6 Wellington Road North – passes through and under the iconic Stockport Viaduct with an innovative and intelligent design solution enabling a two-lane dual carriageway to be formed through a single arch. The new road forms part of the £73m Growth Deal grant funded Town Centre Access Plan (TCAP) programme, which is transforming accessibility for all modes of transport in and around Stockport town centre. A key objective of the TCAP programme is to create or improve access to regeneration areas such as Redrock leisure, Aurora industrial park and Stockport Exchange.

“The Travis Brow Link Road is probably the single most important new strategic highway connection in Stockport in a generation.
“This award is a fantastic achievement for our team and our partners and shows the level of skill and expertise that we have within the authority.
“The Town Centre Access Plan has transformed journeys in an around Stockport and I am delighted that this innovative project has been recognised by the leading lights in the civil engineering industry.”
It is the second time this year that the Travis Brow Link Road has won a major award. It picked up the ‘Project of the Year’ title at the CIHT (Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation) North West Awards in March.
