Organisations across the borough, including Stockport Council, the local police teams and colleagues at Stockport homes, have joined forces to ensure that the people of Stockport are kept up to date with, understand and follow the latest official guidance in a collaborative approach in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
Working alongside the NHS and Public Health England, Stockport’s Pandemic Response Team’s work is to protect residents and make sure businesses adhere to safety rules in the fight against coronavirus with an aim to reduce case numbers and ultimately hospital admissions due to coronavirus.
As well as offering advice and guidance, the team has the power to use enforcement where rules have been ignored, either by imposing on the spot fines or in some cases, closing down any businesses who continue to flout the law and operate in an unsecure and unsafe environment putting people at risk.
The police served 9 Fixed Penalty Notices for groups of people sitting with people not in their household bubbles.
The introduction of the Pandemic Response team is the latest in a number of measures put in place by Stockport Council and partners to safeguard local people and local businesses including developing 1,000 Covid-19 safety packs, to protect homeless and disadvantaged people across the borough.
All organisations are now calling for residents to do their bit to break the chain of transmission, by reducing the contact they have with others outside their home, not visiting care homes and self-isolating if you experience any of the symptoms. Residents are also asked to remember to wear a facemask in public, wash hands regularly and maintain a distance of two metres from others, even when in the supermarket.
A dedicated email address prt@stockport.gov.uk for all Covid related enquiries is now operational.
