Cheadle-based Equity Housing Group is offering a whole month of money advice and hints and tips to both its customers and the general public throughout June.
Equity – which owns and manages over 4,600 properties across the UK – has revealed that in the past year 207 of its customers, predominantly across the North West, have accessed money advice through its in-house specialists. This is up from 154 in 2016/17 and 164 in 2015/16.
The three most common things its customers are seeking help with are foodbank vouchers, paying council tax bills, and ESA assessments, with the average monthly saving of each customer using the service being £112.56.
The housing association is now urging more customers to come forward and seek help if they are struggling with money, particularly with Universal Credit now being rolled out across the UK.
Alastair Cooper, Welfare Reform and Support Specialist at Equity Housing Group, said: “As budgets across the country continue to be squeezed even more tightly, we’ve experienced consecutive year on year growth of customers coming to us looking for help and advice with managing their money. We want those struggling with money issues to know they can come to us for free, impartial and confidential advice – it doesn’t pay to be quiet.”
