Stockport-based social enterprise, Refugees & Mentors, is looking to for an HR professional to support them on their voluntary board of directors.
The organisation has been operating since 2017 and works across Greater Manchester to support refugees and vulnerable migrants to improve their employment prospects and secure work. Services include the Rainbow Haven Work Club, a partnership with Rainbow Haven, a service for refugee professionals, a mentoring programme, short courses, workshops and a bulletin, and are delivered by one staff member, and around 20 volunteers.
The organisation is led by a board of volunteer directors and includes people with experience in different sectors and of the UK asylum system. The R&M board requires a director to take up a voluntary role leading on HR issues ahead of recruiting an additional two part-time workers to start early 2025.
Directors are volunteers and are required to:
- Volunteer two hours per week
- A minimum commitment of six months is preferred.
- Attend directors’ meetings. These are mostly online and roughly every 6 weeks. We hold one to two in person meetings each year.
- Have a good level of English and excellent communication skills.
- Be patient, reliable, organised and punctual.
- Ability to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
- An understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities, confidentiality and GDPR.
- Offer support to help steer the future direction of R&M
- Understand the employment issues faced by refugees and migrants and champion our work
- Live in Greater Manchester
Experienced HR professionals in Stockport who would like to discuss the role in further detail should email Refugees & Mentors with the heading ‘HR Director Volunteer’ before 30th September 2024.
