Solutions SK, a Stockport Council wholly owned company, has introduced a new pre-ordering system to make school dining an even more enjoyable experience.
Solutions SK School Meals Service is the largest provider of school meals in the borough and have been working with Queen’s Road Primary School to introduce the flexible and improved service.
The pre-ordering system means that pupils make their lunch choice in the morning and receive a colour-coded wrist band depending on their meal choice. The pupils show their wrist band to the cook, at lunchtime, who serves their meal.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said:
“This is a really positive new system and since it was launched food wastage has decreased, the service has quickened and pupils have more time to eat their healthy school lunch.”
Barry Brockbank, Head of Operations at Solutions SK, said:
“The School Meals Team has worked with the school to create a system which is tailored to the school. The pre-ordering system allows pupils to take ownership of their meal. By wearing a wrist band as identification of their meal, pupils become excited about food and the overall dining experience.”
Katherine Wilde, Headteacher at Queen’s Road Primary School, added:
“There has been positive feedback from children, parents and staff since the introduction of the system. The service is more efficient giving children more time for their lunch. There is a noticeable reduction in food waste and once the system is up and running it is easy to administer.”
