Stockport Council is calling on residents to reduce their alcohol intake and see if they notice the benefits.
As part of Stockport Council’s ‘Get Involved in a Healthier Stockport’ campaign, residents are being encouraged to make positive lifestyle changes, such as reducing their alcohol consumption, to improve their health in 2014.
Councillor John Pantall, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Health and Well Being, said:
“This campaign is about encouraging people to make positive changes to improve their health. To minimise the chances of harm to health, adults are advised not to drink more than 2-3 units for women or 3-4 units for men in a day – that’s a medium glass of wine or two pints of 3.5% beer.
“The more people drink, the more the risks – including anxiety and depression as well as physical health problems. People could try switching to a weaker drink, or having water in between alcoholic drinks, and try to have at least a couple of days each week without alcohol.”
The campaign looks to encourage residents to get involved and try out different ways of getting healthy, choosing the best way to suit their lifestyle.
