Stockport Council is working in partnership with other agencies to help raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with dementia when they are out and about in the local community.
The Council in partnership with NHS Stockport CCG, Stockport’s Dementia Champion’s network, EDUCATE and the Alzheimer’s Society is holding an information event during Dementia Awareness Week.
The event will be held in Marple Town Centre on Friday 24th May, from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Everyone is welcome to attend to find out more about dementia friendly communities and give their ideas for a more dementia aware and friendly neighbourhood.
The creation of dementia friendly communities is one of the three challenges set out in the Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia to support people with dementia to live well and engage with their communities.
Councillor Daniel Hawthorne, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Adult Care Services, said:
“People with dementia sometimes need a helping hand to go about their daily lives and feel included in their local community. I am pleased we are raising awareness of these issues and supporting people with dementia and their carers to live well with dementia.”
