Stockport Council is thanking everybody who has expressed their views as part of the Primary School Expansion Consultation.
The consultation on a range of proposals to expand primary schools to ensure that there are enough school places for children who need them closed on Friday 1st November.
For a number of years, like many other Councils, Stockport experienced falling pupil numbers and were required to remove surplus places in a number of primary schools.
However, over the last few years we have seen an increase in the number of births and we have already had to increase the number of places at some schools to meet the need in the reception year.
The following schools have been proposed for expansion:
- Cale Green Primary School by September 2014
- Abingdon Primary School by September 2015
- Warren Wood Primary School by September 2015
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said:
“The Council is committed to ensuring we provide children with the best possible education in learning environments which allow every child to reach their full potential. We also need to make the best use of funding available to match available places with future demand. I would like to thank everybody who has taken the time to respond to the consultation.”
The findings from the consultation will be used to form a report which will be considered by the Council’s Executive in December 2013.
