A review into polling districts and where Stockport residents cast their votes in elections will enter a second phase of consultation from 25th August.
The Polling District Review looks at polling districts (which area you vote in) and polling places (where you go to vote). These are subject to change in Stockport due to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England’s review of ward boundaries, the conclusions of which were published in April. The changes to wards has seen some polling districts bisected by map’s new boundaries.
Views given during the first stage of consultation earlier this year on the initial proposals have been taken into consideration, and updated proposals will be made available for comment during the second consultation phase, which runs from 25th August to 7th October. The second phase of the consultation is another chance for everyone to give their views on the proposals, which could impact where Stockport residents vote.
Following the end of the consultation, all comments will be taken into account and the final arrangement of polling districts and polling stations will be agreed by the council later in the year.
Caroline Simpson, Chief Executive and Returning Officer at Stockport Council, said:
“We’re really pleased with the responses received in the first round of the polling district review consultation, and we’ve taken these into account to amend the recommendations accordingly. These amended proposals are what we need everyone to have their say on in the second phase of the consultation. This is really important; it could impact where your polling station is for the 2023 local elections. The ward boundary review may also mean that the ward you vote in has changed.”
Have your say on the consultation when it opens online, or email any comments to localwardboundary@stockport.gov.uk, or send comments by post to: Electoral Services, Room 132, Town Hall, Edward Street, Stockport, SK1 3XE.
If you need support to fill out the consultation, visit your local Stockport library; they can help you fill it in online using the public PCs, or supply you with a paper copy of the consultation.
