STOCKPORT PLAZA SELLS SEATS AND RAISES FUNDS TO REPLACE ALL 1250 SEATS

Stockport’s Plaza theatre have confirmed that are to replace all 1250 seats in the auditorium with exact replicas of the original this August having sourced and raised funding for the £413k project

Gary Trinder, the Plaza’s Vice Chairman and Technical Director is overseeing the restoration project. He  visited Kirwin & Simpson, seating specialists in Grays in Essex who have specialised in custom made seating for four generations, to develop a schedule and plans for creating exact replicas of the seating that was in situe on the opening dy in 1932.

The new seating at The Plaza which will be an exact replica of the originals will consist of 4 rows at the front of the stalls without arms which were originally delineated as one price band by having a segregating rope across the aisle, the ring for which can still be seen in our auditorium whilst the remainder of the Stalls will consist of wooden armed high comfort seating.

The Circle seats will consist of wing backed seating which will have seats 1 inch wider than the Stalls which were originally designed to be the most luxurious seating within the venue though all seats will afford the same quality of seating once replaced whilst the balcony will be the same seat bases with a fabric panelled section all of which will be clad in the antique gold and deep blue cut moquette cladding.

Funds are still being raised for replacement replica carpets and fittings which are also hoped to be completed in August; to raise the final £34k in funds, the Plaza are selling all 1250 seats starting this week!!
