Stockport based military equipment manufacturer, WFEL, anticipates it could create up to 120 new jobs in the borough over the coming year.
The manufacturer builds rapidly deployed tactical bridges for armed forces around the world and is a key partner on the delivery of new BOXER armoured vehicles for the Ministry of Defence in the UK. With defence spending on the rise around the world, the business anticipates increased demand through 2023 for its products.
WFEL expects that it may need up to recruit 100 additional staff across 2023 to meet existing and upcoming orders from armed forces worldwide, as well as to meet its commitments within the £2.3 billion BOXER contract with the MoD. The contract has enabled WFEL to invest in a new manufacturing site in Heaton Chapel, and expand its Stockport workforce.
The manufacturer has now begun 2023 by opening recruitment for four new additions to its mechanical engineering team at its Stockport site in Heaton Chapel. Further recruitment in all other departments of the business is expected to take place later in the year as needs arise.
Stockport based WFEL was established in 1915 as a defence engineering business, and is now the manufacturer of tactical military bridge systems for 42 armed forces around the world. Most recently, the company signed a new contract with Ireland’s armed forces to supply its engineering corps with 31m double storey MGB Medium Girder Bridging Systems for use in military operations and disaster relief.
