Stockport town centre’s £140 million transport interchange is the only UK project to be shortlisted for an International Partnership Award.
The International Partnership Awards celebrate excellence in the public-private partnership (PPP) industry and showcase the best of the sector worldwide, with winners set to be announced on 2nd May.
Stockport Interchange, which opened in March, is a joint venture between Stockport Council, Transport for Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, in conjunction with development partner, CityRise Interchange Homes Limited (a joint venture partnership between developer Cityheart and operator Rise Homes); the contractor is Willmott Dixon Construction.
In addition to the sustainable transport hub, the project includes 196 new 1, 2 and 3 bedroom build to rent apartments, a two-acre town centre park, new cycle route links and five retail units.
In June the remaining elements of the project including the 196 high-quality apartments in the residential development will be opened. A main arterial route now connects regions south of the town with Manchester to the north and will further boost Stockport’s position as one of the best-connected town centres in the North West.
This iconic 10,000 m2 regeneration scheme includes a two-acre landscaped park and connects to a newly opened up area of the River Mersey, creating an accessible river-side area. A new 180 m pedestrian and cycle bridge links the new interchange to the railway station and the town’s new commercial hub at Stockport Exchange.
