Stockport Council has been working in partnership with community groups on a project to improve the emotional health and wellbeing of families.
The ‘5 Ways Art Trail’ project is a local one mile walk through Lancashire Hill and Heaton Norris. The trail will be officially opened on today (Tuesday 21st May) at Heaton Norris Pavilion.
Along the walk there are art-works created by Lancashire Hill and Heaton Norris Community Groups, which are inspired by the ‘5 Ways of Wellbeing’.
The ‘5 Ways of Wellbeing’ were picked up by community groups working with the Council to encourage families to live healthier lives on a daily basis.
Here are a few ideas about what you might do:
- Give – your time, your energy, your help to do something for others however small
- Connect – meet up with old friends, make new ones, join a group, chat to a neighbour
- Take Notice – stop, look and listen to what is going on around you, take a moment to notice and enjoy it all
- Be Active – this walk is just one of many ways to boost your activity level and you can try going further or faster
- Keep Learning – be curious about your world, find out how it works, follow your dreams and see where they take you
The art works will be on display along the walk throughout the summer. The map of the walk is displayed at the ASDA supermarket on Belmont Way and people can pick up a leaflet from the Council run Belmont and Lancashire Hill Children’s Centre.
Councillor John Pantall, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:
“This is a really positive and innovative community project which will help improve the emotional health and wellbeing of families in the area. Walking is a really good form of exercise which has a positive impact on people’s health. The Council is committed to encouraging residents to live healthier lives and will continue to work with community groups to develop projects.”
