Skylight, part of the Stockport Homes Group, and Stockport Jobs Match are hosting a one-day employment support event to help over 50s in the borough get back into work.
Delivered across two sessions, attendees will learn how to search and apply for jobs online, understand the local jobs market and the types of positions that match their transferable skills, as well as developing the resilience and confidence to succeed in job interviews.
Taking place on Wednesday 28th June 2023 (9.30am-4.30pm) at Cornerstone, 2 Edward Street, Stockport SK1 3NQ, the event has been designed specifically meet the unique challenges facing over 50s jobseekers. Despite valuable years of experience, jobseekers in this age group often do not feel confident in their skills, particularly digital skills, compared to other jobseekers or can be unsure of how to ‘sell yourself’ in a video or face-to-face interview.
The day’s agenda will cover:
- An overview of the jobs market in Stockport and available local job vacancies
- Where and how to find work quickly, including what jobs match your transferable skills
- Opportunities for older workers in Stockport
- How to create or update your CV to achieve the best results
- Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Using online job boards and social media to search and apply for jobs
- Registering on job boards and signing up to job alerts
- Understanding how employers and recruiters make decisions about you
- How to increase your self-esteem
- Developing resilience and improving your job search
- Building confidence for applications, interviews and outcomes
- Stoicism and patience in this new arena
- Understanding the luck factor and how to expect good fortune
There will also be the chance to have a one-to-one session with an Employment Advisor to help you create a CV or discuss your next steps.
