Stockport Homes’ Safer Neighbourhoods Team have successfully secured a Closure Order on a property in Edgeley in response to reports of anti-social behaviour.
The team worked closely with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Stockport Council to gather sufficient evidence to take legal action against the property on Robinson Street, Edgeley, and its tenant to address an escalation in reports of serious anti-social behaviour.
The Closure Order was granted at a hearing in Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 25th July 2023, using powers in the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. Action was taking following persistent reports of anti-social behaviour occurring at the property, which was having a detrimental effect on the local residents and the community. Stockport Homes Group and GMP received several complaints of threatening behaviour, arguments, verbal abuse, drug activity and criminal damage.
The Closure Order means that no one is permitted to reside in, or visit, the property and is for a period of three months. The order will provide respite and protection for the residents who were affected by the behaviours while Stockport Homes proceeds to take back permanent possession of this property.
The Central Policing & Response team at GMP said:
“Greater Manchester Police are committed to support residents that report anti-social behaviour and will take a firm stance on those who breach regulations and cause distress to other residents. Response officers and Neighbourhood teams have worked hard in a collaborative partnership with Stockport Homes to enforce a closure order granted on the 25th of July 2023.”
John Bowker, Executive Director of Operations at Stockport Homes commented:
“All our residents have the right to feel safe and secure in their homes, which is why we will continue to take decisive and firm action in collaboration with Greater Manchester Police where it is needed to tackle all forms of anti-social behaviour. We are pleased with the result of the case which will provide our residents much-needed respite and confidence in the fact that we will not tolerate such behaviours.”
