Almost 2,400 walkers took part in the Midnight Walk last Friday (June 20) and it is hoped more than £250,000 will be raised for St Ann’s Hospice. Caring comes naturally to a trio of fundraisers from Stockport who took the Manchester Midnight Walk in their stride.

Emma Scrivens, from Bramhall, works at Stepping Hill Hospital as an assistant practitioner while Emma Harney, from Great Moor, is a case officer there.
Nursery nurse Sam Nolan, from Heaviley, said:
“We all work in the caring profession and know just what St Ann’s Hospice means to the community. It’s the first time we’ve taken part in the walk and the atmosphere is terrific.”
It was one of the best turn outs in the eight-year history of the Manchester Midnight Walk with walkers enjoying a warm, pleasant evening. The event was sponsored by bookmakers Betfred.
Many walkers lit memory lanterns at a special site behind Manchester Cathedral.
Jayne Bessant, Chief Executive at St Ann’s Hospice, said:
“Every year we’re amazed by the number of people taking part and I’d like to thank all those who took part again this year. The support was incredible and we’re extremely grateful to the thousands of people who sponsored the walkers.
“Many have inspiring stories about how St Ann’s has touched their lives, perhaps having lost friends and relatives. Others joined in just to be part of a fun, family event and enjoy the special late-night atmosphere.”
