Other drinks on offer include beer, rum, a hot alcoholic punch and cocktails, plus butterbeer for the kids.
The Merseyway Christmas Markets opened on November 16th. Stalls are selling gifts and festive grub, plus mulled wine and other alcoholic drinks like a Stockport Gin and tonic. The markets open every day right through until Christmas Eve. Retailers are extending opening hours until 7.30 pm on select December evenings for Christmas shoppers.
Compstall-based Paul and Cheryl Sharrocks launched Stockport’s first gin in March this year. Already they have seen it win a Bronze Medal Award at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. It is a truly local product because the botanicals that flavour the gin include pine needles from Etherow Park.
The entrepreneurial couple were also shortlisted for Most Promising Young Business at the Stockport Business Awards this year.
Apart from the at the Christmas Markets, over 50 locations now stock Stockport Gin, including Selfridges Manchester. The distillery is the official drinks provider for the Stockport County Man of the Match Award and have designed personalised labels to attach to each bottle which display the winning players name. A limited edition Giant Leap Edition Gin was also distilled to coincide with the Stockport Frogs Art Trail.
